FUN FACTS

Acrux appears on the national flags of New Zealand, Australia, Samoa, and Papua New Guinea as one of the five stars that make up the distinctive Southern Cross asterism.
In Portugal, Acrux is known as Estrela de Magalhães, which translates into Star of Magellan. This should be no surprise as the Portuguese explorer used it to sail during his long voyages in the southern oceans in the 16th century.
